Overview

OVERALL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The purpose of the Fitter (Mechanical) is to carry out modifications to pipelines and fabricate small to medium sized metal structures. This is to include erection of supporting structures to enable the dismantling and removal of heavy equipment from restricted spaces.

DUTIES & RESPONSABILITIES:

  • Carry out the fabrication of small to medium sized metal structures, fabrication and installations of new pipework and replacement of short sections of the main pipelines, with any personnel that are assigned to help them.
  • Ensures that work is carried out in a safe manner and in strict compliance with written down procedures and / or industry standards.
  • Ensures that metal structure fabrication and new pipeline runs are carried out in compliance with industry standards, written down procedures and is to keep records of such work. Assists their superior in the preparation of job procedures where these are lacking.
  • Carry out pipelines testing including pressure tests.
  • Identifies and estimates the equipment and materials required for each specific tests.
  • Keeps their superior updated with any parts that need to be procured.
  • Assists in the compilation and constant improvement of standard procedures.
  • Drive vehicles to carry out work in different installations, gathering quotations and purchasing of materials.
  • Participates in regular toolbox meetings with mechanical team and also their counterparts from other departments.
  • To perform other related duties as assigned by Management related to the job description.

QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO MEET POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Be in possession of:

  • City and Guilds certificates at MQF Level 4, or MCAST certificates at MQF Level 4 in Welding and Fabrication or Operations and Maintenance or Manufacturing or Certificates at MQF level 4 in pipe fitting with 2 years’ experience in a mechanical Student training period is also considered valid for this requirement.
  • OR Certificates at MQF Level 3 in the same areas mentioned above with 10 years of experience working within the sector.
  • To acquire a first-aider certificate during the first three months of the engagement.
  • Awareness of Occupational Health & Safety and Security.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic knowledge of typical electrical terms.

PERSONAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Promotes teamwork.
  • Must be able to take decisions on the spot.
  • Must be in possession of a valid driving license.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be in good enough general health to carry out his duties under pressing needs and a demanding environment.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights.
