OVERALL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To carry out regular water draining from fuel tanks under the supervision of the Storage Installation Controller, align fuel pipeline systems and operate pumps for fuel transfer operations. Prepares pipelines, pumps and tanks for maintenance by draining them dry from fuel.
DUTIES & RESPONSABILITIES:
- Opens and closes valves on pipelines and pump rooms, as directed by the Operations Officer (OO), Chargehand (CH) and /or Storage Installation Controller (SIC), including those inside the tunnels and dolphins, operates pumps and stays in attendance during their operations when directed by his/her superiors.
- Takes periodic readings and records pump and line pressure during operations.
- Switches on and off the tunnel lighting and ventilation system.
- Drains water from the storage tanks as directed by the OO, CH and / or SIC.
- Patrols pipelines, as directed by the OO, CH and SIC, during pumping and receiving operations.
- Pre-sets loading meters, recording totalizer readings and volumes, and operates valves on the loading gantry in order to fill road tankers with Petroleum Fuels where applicable.
- Checks and seals road tanker compartments immediately after loading if instructed by their superiors.
- In the absence of the CH, takes charge of the fuel un/loading operations.
- Performs light maintenance jobs as instructed by the OO and CH. These include, but are not limited to, the connection and disconnection of hoses to ships’ manifolds, the filling up of injection pumps’ supply tanks on road – tanker filling points and dolphin with dyes and markers, the monitoring and emptying of sumps and culverts in tunnels, the opening and closing of tanks’ manhole covers, pipeline caulking, pipeline painting inside the tunnels, oiling of valve stems and other plant, replacement of fan belts and occasional weed removal, sweeping of main area, pump rooms and escape and ventilation shafts, and the dusting of pipelines.
- Helping in emergency situations like oil spills and fire containment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Management related to the job description.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Must be able to read and write.
- Must be ICT literate.
- Must be mechanical engineering oriented.
PERSONAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Able to communicate effectively with peers and superiors.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be in good enough general health to carry out their duties under pressing needs and a demanding environment.
